Nandipha’s words about her experience of flying on the foofy slide today! She shared these with me at the end of the day when I invited her to tell me what the experience of flying had been like. Such open, brave words, spoken by a 6 year old.
It was a day filled with a lot of bravery, challenges, fun and delight for all the children. We walked from the communinty centre to the SA Circus School in the morning. When we arrived we had a snack, met the circus staff and were organised into teams. The first activity was an obstacle course. Next we played organised games in a landscape of tyres and hills. This was followed by another game in a sand pit, involving blindfolds, tyres, balls and a lot of team work. The final group game was dodge ball!
It was warm business with the summery-like day! Both teams worked together really well through all of the activities. Team spirit emerged, they chanted support, clapped hands, encouraged and congratualted each other for their achievements! It turns out that both teams did so well they tied 🙂
The finale was the big 109 meter foofy slide. Children ran to line up, put on their harnesses and head up into the netted tunnel walkway that carried them to the launching patform way up in the sky. I have to be honest, it is really high and they were very brave. Almost everyone gave it a go!
When we came back to the community centre and talked about what it felt like to fly…this is what they had to say:
What an amazing day 🙂
